#Skills4Climate

In light of the Fit for 55 Package negotiations and the current geopolitical and energy context, we together with 16 fellow organisations support a letter prepared by EuropeOn to the EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to address the lack of skilled professionals.

“To be able to reach our sustainability goals, we foresee a large demand in labour, mainly on technical skilled specialists. The EU must do more to link skills and climate policies to facilitate the energy transition. Qualified specialists are key to ensuring Europe’s energy security in the future.”

eu.bac President Hans Smid,

The Commission must take action by:

  • Requiring Member States to assess the gap between available and needed installation professionals to achieve EU climate and energy objectives
  • Launching an ambitious EU campaign to change mindsets across Europe and enhance the attractiveness of technical/vocational education and careers in the twin transitions
  • Setting up a “Skills4Climate/Climate crafters Platform”, similar to the “Just Transition Platform”, to gather Member States, social partners, academia and all relevant EU and national stakeholders
