eu.bac elects a new President

eu.bac is pleased to announce the election of Hans Smid (Schneider Electric) as its new President during the recent General Assembly. He succeeds Jean Daniel Napar (Siemens) who led the association for six years. eu.bac thanks Mr Napar for his leadership and dedication.

Hans Smid currently holds the position of Director of Digital Building at Schneider Electric and is an experienced leader, who has worked in the digitization of the building and electrical engineering industry. He has a background in engineering and Business Administration.

Following his election, Hans Smid stated:

“eu.bac is, and must continue to be the go-to association when it comes to Building Automation and Controls. We are an organization that has provided real solutions to real problems. We must persist on that path with concrete proposals for the ongoing legislative developments. There is a need for more sustainable, more digital and more flexible buildings. This is a critical year to achieve it with the review of the EPBD which has brought one of the most important boosts for the BACS industry with the mandatory roll-out of BACS in all large non-residential buildings. We have a great opportunity to reinforce those provisions to extend the scope to include a broader range of non-residential but also residential buildings and lead the fight for building decarbonization with other trade associations. Furthermore, we must raise awareness of BACS benefits both for Energy Efficiency and Digitalisation but also for people inhabiting the Buildings through Indoor Environmental Quality and comfort. Finally, we must advocate for more investment in training and reskilling, as the digital and green transitions will require an educated workforce.”
