eu.bac Co-signs Joint Industry Letter on EU Affordable Housing Plan
eu.bac joins leading Brussels organisations by signing a letter to influence the European Affordable Housing Plan and the future Commissioner’s mandate at an early stage. The letter aims to provide industry experts’ input and recommendations to help the Commission progress this initiative while addressing EU decarbonization challenges.
The letter recomends the Affordable Housing Plan to:
- Ensure legislative coherence: Align with existing energy, climate, and sustainable construction legislation (EED, EPBD, RED, CPR).
- Set energy efficiency standards: Establish minimum energy efficiency standards and indoor environmental quality requirements for rental homes.
- Balance new construction and renovation: Strike a balance between new construction and renovation efforts.
- Maximize funding utilization: Ensure Member States effectively use MFF and RRF funds and build confidence among managing authorities.
- Strengthen technical assistance: Enhance technical assistance, including administrative capacity and training budgets, and promote public-private partnerships for energy efficiency renovations.
- Allocate resources: Allocate SCF and ETS 2 revenues to support low-income households in upgrading their worst-performing buildings and set more favorable VAT rules for renovation works, materials, and new construction.
We thank EBE and Eurima for drafting the letter and Housing Europe, CPE, EBC, EAE, EPPA, EUROGYPSUM, EVVE, Glass for Europe, and PU EUROPE for joining to advocate for these crucial measures. By working together, we can create a more sustainable, affordable, and comfortable housing sector for all Europeans.
“The European Affordable Housing Plan has the potential to ensure that no one is left without a home or trapped in a bad house, which could burden them with higher bills, and poor health and comfort conditions for decades to come.”
