eu.bac co-signs “Energy Efficiency for Energy Security” Letter

The European Building Automation and Controls Association (eu.bac) has joined 33 companies and organisations including large companies, associations, and business networks, to call on the European Commission to place energy efficiency at the heart of Europe’s response to the ongoing energy crisis.

As Europe faces rising energy prices and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty, immediate and scalable solutions are essential to reduce energy demand and strengthen the EU’s energy security. Energy efficiency is one of the fastest, most cost‑effective and readily available answers.

The role of BACS

Buildings have an important role to play in Europe’s push to energy security. 42% of the EU’s energy consumption happens in buildings, yet 75% of the building stock remains energy-inneficient.

Building Automation and Control Systems (BACS) allow buildings to actively monitor, manage and optimise energy use – reducing waste while maintaining comfort and performance. By automatically adapting heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting to actual needs, BACS deliver lasting energy savings and support the integration of electrification and renewables.

Improving energy efficiency through smart building technologies will not only lower energy bills for citizens and businesses, but also reduce peak demand, cut reliance on imported energy, and increase Europe’s resilience in the face of supply shocks.

A Call for Action

eu.bac’s support for the joint letter builds on its long‑standing advocacy for smart, efficient buildings and for robust implementation of EU legislation that recognises the role of BACS in decarbonisation and energy security.

Alongside the other signatories, we call on EU institutions to swiftly and effectively implement existing legislation, including the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, and to unlock investment in proven energy efficiency solutions already available on the market.
