eu.bac co-signs “A 2040 EU energy efficiency target” letter

On 28 September, eu.bac joined 92 organisations co-signing the letter “A 2040 EU energy efficiency target: the European Union’s first line of defence“, addressed to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

This initiative brought together companies, industry associations and civil society organisations calling for a stable and predictable post-2030 energy efficiency framework, starting with an EU energy efficiency target for 2040.

In a context of supply shocks, skyrocketing energy prices, and unprecedented summer heatwaves, energy efficiency is Europe’s first line of defence. A binding final energy efficiency target for 2040 provides the consistent, long-term signal needed to unlock investment, strengthen manufacturing and give businesses confidence to develop the skills, capacity and supply chains needed for the next decade.

The role of BACS

42% of EU’s energy consumption happens in buildings, yet 75% of the building stock remains energy-inefficient. By automatically adapting heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting to actual needs, Building Automation and Control Systems (BACS) deliver lasting energy savings and support the integration of electrification and renewables.

Enhancing energy efficiency with smart building technologies will reduce energy costs for households and businesses, ease peak demand, cut dependence on imported energy, and increase Europe’s resilience in the face of supply shocks.
