EPBD Transposition: The Commission launches infringement procedures against the 27 Member States
On 15 July 2026, the European Commission announced the opening of infringement procedures against all 27 EU Member States for failing to fully transpose into national law the provisions of the recast Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).
The deadline for national transposition of the recast EPBD was 29 May 2026. All Member States have now received letters of formal notice. They have two months to respond, complete their transposition and notify the Commission. In the absence of a satisfactory response, the Commission may decide to issue a reasoned opinion.
eu.bac welcomes the Commission’s action to strenghten the credibility of EU building policy and ensure that the agreed requirements are implemented effectively.
